Guided Autobiography

a structured yet personal approach to storytelling that makes the process both meaningful and enjoyable

Our Services

Guided Autobiography (GAB) is a structured approach that involves delving into one’s life story with the guidance of a trained facilitator. It offers individuals an opportunity to deeply reflect on and chronicle significant life experiences, enabling them to gain valuable insight, perspective and a richer understanding of their personal journey.

About Me

Todd comes from a family of storytellers. He has always been intrigued by the stories of generations past. After learning about the health benefits to seniors who share their history and how important those stories are to future generations, Precious Words was born.
As a certified GAB instructor through the Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies, Todd helps people reflect upon their past so they can write, share and preserve the most significant moments of their lives not only for themselves but for generations to come.

 Dr. James Birren

The Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies

The Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies carries forward the legacy of Dr. James E. Birren (1918-2016), a groundbreaking scholar in gerontology who devoted his career to advancing the study of aging. In the 1970s, while at the University of Southern California (USC), where he established the nation’s first graduate school of gerontology, he created the protocol for a program called Guided Autobiography (GAB).

By encouraging individuals to reflect on and share their life stories, this program highlights the importance of their experiences—not only for themselves but also for their families and loved ones.
