The Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies carries forward the legacy of Dr. James E. Birren (1918-2016), a groundbreaking scholar in gerontology who devoted his career to advancing the study of aging. In the 1970s, while at the University of Southern California (USC), where he established the nation’s first graduate school of gerontology, he created the protocol for a program called Guided Autobiography (GAB).<\/p>
